IN THE LAB

POST-EXCAVATION PROCESSING & DATA ANALYSIS

Data collected in the field requires meticulous organization and analysis to be scientifically useful. OAR provides independent laboratory and technical processing support to ensure all field findings are properly preserved, cataloged, and transformed into clean research datasets.

MATERIAL PROCESSING & CATALOGING

  • Artifact Washing & Stabilization: Careful processing of terrestrial and maritime materials according to standard curation guidelines.

  • Inventory Control: Sorting, labeling, and systematic cataloging of artifact assemblages.

  • Curation Preparation: Package materials in archive-safe storage containers, ready for transfer to long-term state repositories or museums.

DIGITAL PRESERVATION & IMAGERY

  • Multi-Spectrum Photography: Capture crisp, scaled, publication-grade imagery of key artifacts and diagnostic traits in different light spectrums (including UVB & infrared).

  • 3D Digital Modeling: Utilize photogrammetry to build interactive 3D digital models of specific artifacts for research or public outreach.

  • Digital Field Record Digitization: Convert hand-drawn field profiles, stratigraphic maps, and paper logs into clean digital formats.

REMOTE SENSING DATA PROCESSING

Field data from geospatial trackers and remote sensing tools is refined in the lab into clear, actionable maps.

  • GIS Mapping Data Entry: Import and clean spatial coordinates to build comprehensive GIS databases

  • Anomaly Post-Processing: Review and filter terrestrial or maritime sensor data to isolate and map cultural targets.

  • Spatial Reconstructions: Synthesize project layout data to reconstruct site boundaries and excavation grids digitally.

ARCHIVE SYNTHESIS & REPORTING

OAR assembles disparate pieces of historical and physical data into structured technical overviews.

  • Historical Timeline Matching: Correlate recovered artifact data with historical property deeds, maps, and archival timelines.

  • Technical Appendices: Compile raw data tables, catalog sheets, and photographic logs for integration into final project reports.

  • Research Assistance: Provide background literature reviews and comparative artifact analysis to support primary researchers.

OUR ROLE & COMPLIANCE POLICY

OAR is a specialized technical subcontractor and an independent, non-commercial research entity.

  • We focus entirely on post-field analysis, data entry, artifact processing, and technical reporting assistance.

  • We do not independently author regulatory compliance or mitigation reports requiring independent SHPO tracking.

  • We do not independently issue regulatory-mandated environmental or archaeological assessments.

  • We operate seamlessly under the direct oversight and active permits of your project's SOI-qualified Principal Investigator.
